Trump; A Fascist’s Rage
Every American president in history has become angry at some point, sure. It’s a tough job beset with great challenges. Previous presidents, however, have generally retained their dignity and dealt with their anger without resorting to embarrassing displays of emotional meltdown. Trump, by way of comparison, is a dramatic departure not only from the comportment of previous American presidents, but also of world leaders on the whole. While we’re all familiar with Trump’s tamer fits as they are broadcast daily over Twitter by way of petulant “tweet-storms,” in-person Trump is rumored to be even worse. He hurls insults, throws folders full of paper, shouts at his assembled staff, verbally abuses housekeepers and berates even his highest-level appointees profanely.
His anger can be profoundly expensive, analysts have determined that the 5-week Christmas shutdown of 2018 cost the country an estimated $11 billion. It was the longest government shutdown in American history, directly impacting over 800,000 federal workers and causing devastating financial distress. Many federal employees in critical positions were forced to work without pay while suffering repossessions and foreclosures as the shutdown dragged on. All because of a temper tantrum over funding for the proposed southern border wall. Trump was fine with letting the country suffer for day after day, week after week right through the Christmas…
